About Me

Hey, I’m Ken — a Japanese native living in Japan and the creator of Japan Setup. I was born and raised in Japan, and I lived in Tokyo while attending university.

In 2017, I moved to Malaysia for work, and through that experience, I learned how much time and effort it takes to settle into a new country — and how confusing it can be at first.

This site is for people planning a long-term stay in Japan (for work, study, remote work, or other purposes). My goal is to help you save time, avoid unnecessary costs, and make better decisions from the start.

Japan Setup primarily covers internet and mobile connectivity for Japan. As a local, I focus on providing practical, objective, and logical guides so you can make the best choices. Alongside this, I share other widely used tools and services that are truly worth considering.

This site is designed as a step-by-step roadmap, guiding you from before your arrival all the way to long-term life in Japan.

How to Use Japan Setup

  • Phase 1: Pre-Arrival
Things to set up before you even board your flight (including eSIMs, VPNs, money transfer services, and more).
  • Phase 2: Right After Arrival
Getting connected as soon as you land (including airport SIMs, Portable Wi-Fi, and more).
  • Phase 3: Long-Term Setup
Setting up a stable internet connection for your daily life in Japan (including home internet, long-term SIM plans, and more).

I hope this site helps make your transition smoother — so you can enjoy your time in Japan to the fullest!
